I have to admit to being a bit of a sucker for a nice boxset. My favourite one I own is by Carter: The Unstoppable Sex Machine that was a Christmas gift from Danielle a couple of years ago. It contains all seven studio albums and two LPs of b-sides and covers on different coloured vinyl and housed in a foil-stamped heavyweight box. It really is a thing of beauty. I've also got the Oasis - Definitely Maybe one, a couple from Ryan Adams and even a Rod Stewart collection of his first five solo albums.
I think the presence of a boxset in the collection shows some kind of dedication to the band. You wouldn't want one by every artist, but a few in there I think really help accentuate those artists that mean the most to you. There's also no denying that they look great on the shelf too.
Over the last few weeks there has been a real increase in the number of boxsets being announced by the labels. I guess there must be some kind of annual celebration coming or something? So to try and make sense of them all I have created a bit of a list to bring your attention to those I think are most noteworthy. So, in no particular order, let's dive in:
